Top Ten Tuesday. Short stories.

Top Ten Tuesday har nu flyttat över till That artsy reader girl.
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

July 17: Favorite Novellas/Short Stories
1. Dumpling or Boule de suif or Fettpärlan is a great novella by the famous French writer Guy de Maupassant.
2. The Colonel´Lady by Somerset Maugham. About a man who misjudges his wife totally and is very hurt when the truth emerges to him.
3. The Seals by Lydia Davis. About the love between to sisters.
4. Marcelle by Simone de Beauvoir. Marcelle is a young girl who reads a lot of novels. Her greatest whish is to be the muse of a literary genius.
5. The Lady with the Dog by Anton Tjechov is considered to be one of the most short stories ever written. It´s about two unhappily married people who meet when vacationing in Jalta.
6. Mary Yukary Waters, The Laws of evening. Eleven novellas that take place in Japan and is about the second world war or the memory of it. The Woman in the Title novella is Sono, 80, who lost her husband and two daughters in the war.
7. Husband and wife by Koike Mariko. A young man about to be married meets with two old ladies in a train compartment and a weird conversation takes place. 
8. The Heart fails without warning by Hilary Mantel. About sisters, loneliness and eating disorders.
9. The five - forty - eight is a short story by John Cheever about Blake, an arrogant and ruthless man who seduces a plain woman at his office and then gives her the sack. But she knows how to take revenge
10. The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe is a famous short story about Roderick Usher and writes to a friend and asks him to come. The friend is horrified of what he

Top ten tuesday


Top Ten Tuesday: June 13: Father's Day related Freebiefavorite dads in literature, best father/daughter or son relationships, books to buy your dad, worst dads in literature. Jag väljer några far/dotterrelationer (daughters and their fathers), men hoppar över Pappa Långben, Efraim Långstrump och rövarhövdingen Mattis.
 
Åsa Linderborg, Mig äger ingen
När mamma lämnar familjen stannar Åsa hos sin far, som älskar henne mycket.
Och hon honom. Men han är alkoholist. 

Sara Stridsberg, Beckomberga
Pappa sitter för det mesta på Beckomberga. Dottern besöker honom ofta. Och de har ett mycket speciellt förhållande.

Selma Lagerlöf, Kejsaren av Portugallien
Torparen Jan i Skrolycka har en dotter som han älskar över allt annat. När hon försvinner till Stockholm och aldrig hör av sig försvinner fadern in i en drömvärld där han tror sig vara kejsare av Portugallien.

Hanna Hellquist,  Karlstad Zoologiska
Dråpligt och udda om en uppväxt tillsammans med de många djur som pappa på ett eller annat sätt förde i huset.

Författaren är en inflytelserik feminist och författare från Australien

Mian Lodalen, Dårens dotter
Mian Lodalen är journalist och författare. Hennes pappa är "bohem, estradör, charmör, fängelsekund och kondomförsäljare. Som kör bil på isen, gråter när han inte kan ta med nya Porschen in i lägenheten och tar med dottern på porrfilm. Och som bara dyker upp när han själv känner för det."

Mannen i Carola Hanssons roman, Den älskvärde, liknar mycket Carola Hanssons egen pappa.
 
Maarja Talgre, Leos dotter: roman
MT:s far, Leo, var motståndsman och blev kvar i Estland när modern flydde. Maarja Talgre föddes i Sverige. Fadern mördades av den sovjetiska säkerhetstjänsten och fick aldrig se sin dotter. MT:s bok handlar om faderns, korta och dramatiska liv
Assia Djebar, Ingenstans i min fars hus 
Romanen skildrar en uppväxt i Algeriet där författaren  som femåring inte fick lära sig cykla för fadern, som ansåg att hon inte fick visa benen. Bara som ett exempel.

8. Ladivine  av Marie Ndiaye. En fattig algerisk mamma offrar allt för sin
dotter i en förstad till Paris
9. Katrina av Sally Salminen. Katrina drog en nitlott när hon gifte sig. Hon
blev snarast mor till sin man också 
10. Kvinnor och äppelträd av Moa Martinson. Sally är en beundransvärd kvinna.

Lyckligtvis äger jag ett flertal av dessa titlar, men Riktiga Elsie, Baserad på en sann historia och Professorn lånar jag. Evt köper jag Professorn.

Förlaget Sekwa lottade ut ett bokpaket strax före jul och jag hade turen att vinna, vilket innebar att jag kunde packa upp en julklapp i trettonhelgen. Det är aldrig för sent eller fel med hårda klappar. I väntan på Bojangles och Sorgen bär fjäderdräkt fanns i paketet.

Top ten tuesday

The Broke and the Bookish: This week's topic is: Top Ten Books With X Setting (top ten books set near the beach, top ten book set in boarding school, top ten books set in England, etc)
I decided to talk about books that are set by the sea.

  1. Duras, Marguerite, The Sea Wall. A widowed teacher and her two children live in Vietnam by the Pacific Ocean. To save the crops they have to build a wall against the ocean
  2. Gallay, Claudie, The Breakers. The coastland of Normandie
  3. Winterson, Jeanette, Lighthousekeeping. Salts, the scottish coast - young Silver is sent to live with the blind lighthouse keeper Pew when she has lost her mother. 
  4. Woolf, Virginia, To the lighthouse. A summerhouse in Cornwall
  5. May, Peter, Black house. Isle of Lewis off the coast of northern Scotland
  6. Jansson, Tove,  The Summer book. A grandmother and her grandchild   spend the summer on an island. It´s a wonderful tale about the friendship between an old woman and a very young girl.
  7. Stedman, M L, The light between oceans. A lighthouse keeper and his wife living off the coast of Western Australia raise a baby they rescue from an adrift rowboat.
  8. Murdoch, Iris, The sea, the sea. A man retires from his theatre life an buys a house by the sea to escape his love affairs.
 
  9. du Maurier, Daphne, Jamaica Inn. About unscrupulous men
who run ships aground, kill the sailors and steal the cargo. Of course there is a love story, too. Cornwall.
10. Benchley, Peter, Jaws. A shark attacks men in Amity, a fictional seaside resort town on Long Island, New York.
